Manchester was amazing... i had so much fun visiting my friend Ellie and seeing her neck of the woods. I got there late friday afternoon and i got my first taste of Manchester with Rob (Ellies brother) who picked me up and it was great to be driving on the left side of the road again. we missed our exit on the ring road and eventually got to Preston (an hour north west of Manchester City).
That night i met James, Ellies boyfriend and we all headed up to Beacons Fell Hill. I got my first real taste of country england with very narrow roads and corners that had stone or hedge fences either side well over 1m tall... When we we eventually got up the hill, i got to see a magnificent sunset before having my first 'Chav' experience
Ellie had a huge day planned on saturday. This involved checking out an old church and castle in Lancaster. The thing i remember most was our gothic-looking guide who wore all black, had long crimped hair and had a gigantic ring on everyfinger amongst other things... He was quite scary and cracked poor jokes the whole time - you know the same ones he has told for the past few years... Then we headed up to the Lakes District after some lunch and this place was amazing. We first drove into the area and saw this huge lake that had heaps of sailing boats and there were blue skies and sun shining - a beautiful and rare english summer day. There were great walking tracks and we walked up some hill - well i limped cause my bruised foot was still killing me - and then we went and sat by the main lake afterwoods for a bit. it was really relaxing - i would compare it to just sitting by Darling Harbour in Sydney on a nice day - i would love to come back to this place and just camp and walk around..
I also got to go to Liverpool on Monday with Becca- one of ellies friends... we had so much fun and we went to the Docks, also the LIverpool Cathedral where we paid to go to the very top roof - some 100m or more high... it gave us a great view of the city and then we went to the Metro Cathedral (catholic) which was a fair bit smaller and had a completely different feel. i really enjoyed Liverpool. A whole bunch of us also went ice-skating that night too which was fun - i havent done that in years...
well next update will be from London.
