Update 15: Brown Water Rafting
Location: Mendoza, Argentina
Date: 13th Jan 07

In my last update i was writing how safe argentina is compared to the other countries i have visited. I still stand by that comment but somehow that is a little distorted after lunch on our first day in mendoza, argentina. Steve and I were sitting down at a great roadside cafe near the central area, and the next thing we know we are watching a snatch and grab attack accross the street. So off this guy ran with a handbag or wallet or something, and there was people running after him. Even the waiter at the cafe, stoped speaking to us mid sentence to watch the affair.

The highlight of our trip to mendoza was certainly our white or rather brown water rafting adventure in the nearby Rio Andinos. This company had a pretty awesome setup - first class compared to most tour agencies we have experienced in other coutries with a massive restaurant/bar area, pool and pool deck as well as some other things.
The rafting was fun but short - only an hour, but it great! We had the gringo team with a guy from NZ, a girl from French Canada, and Steve and I representing the aussies proudly. The water was muddy as are most of the rivers i have seen in argentina and rather chilly. After trying unsuccessfully as a group to capsize in the rapids, we proceeded to splash the other 3 boats and try to push anyone we could into the water. I caught steve unawares and later he tried to get me, but he pushed me into the other boat where i was able to take down the smart mouthed guide who was ticking me off all morning! Notch another one up for Aus! Ahhhh... Good times.

Mendoza is also famed for its wines and wedecided to do a wine tour. It was ok, but i must say the wines werent all that great. In fact, a 2.50peso (AUD$1) bottle of wine that we bought for cooking tasted better than some of the wines on the tour. A bit dissapointing really.
