Update 1: The Terrifying Taxi Trip
Location: Lima, Peru
Date: Sat 18th Nov 06

(For those of you who didnt know, Nath is travelling again. this time its to south america for 10 weeks. if you do not wish to recieve this update, then please contact me by email - and i will remove you.)

The title of this entry sums it all up. After 36 hours of travelling with little sleep, the most interesting and scary part of the trip was the ride from the airport to the hostel. it was 1am local time (5pm sydney time) and we thought it was crazy enough trying to negotiate the airport yet alone what was to come in the taxi!

whether or not there are road rules here in peru i am not sure but there certainly didnt seem to be any - i mean it is possible that there is some form of organisation to teh chaos but its certainly not evident to an outsider!

we were going through flashing red lights (and it was flashing orange for what appeared to be side streets.) the scary thing is that we would fly though every intersection regardless of the colour!!! not only would we be flying through but there was lane changing at the same time (accross the traffic in intersections)...

but we made it safe and sound. the hostel and the area it is in is nice. we are actually not in lima but just outside in a town called miraflores. we had a bit of a walk around today. the place is nice, its overcast and low 20īs in temp. we are keen to get out of the city as soon as possible to see as much of peru as we can.

the plan is to catch a bus north (hopefully tomorrow) to a large coastal town called trujillo. we will be there for a week and come back to lima to meet our mate lyle before heading east.

Peace Out.
