Hi All,
Just wanted to give a quick update about yesterday & today. I don't have any pictures, unfortunately, but I though that this is better than nothing. Yesterday I went to a Dutch church with a co-worker (Hans van der Gaag) and his family in the morning. I recognized a few of the songs, but for the most part I did not understand the service. Then for lunch Hans invited me over to their house. In the afternoon Hans & I went on a 37 mile bike ride to Germany, it was great but exhausting! In the evening the van der Gaag's had me over for dinner. It was a very nice day.
Today, Monday, was my first day of work. It was pretty difficult-- it is difficult (but not impossible) to not speak Dutch in an office environment because not everyone's english comes "easy" to them. I'm working on a document this summer that details procedures for instrumenting the reciprocating compressors. It is a difficult task, and one that I think will surely take me the whole summer.
I live about 20 miles from my work, which is a little bit of a challenge right now. There are a few co-workers who live in the same town as me, but at work we have flexible starting and stopping hours, so it is not always convenient for me (or them) to try and arrange a ride. There is a bus that runs from my town to Rheden, however, the bus drivers are on strike right now!
It's been good so far, and I am looking forward to my fellow Calvin student moving in to our flat on Friday.
Hope your summers are going well so far,
Nate
