My time here at my new home has been great so far. Here is a recap of the past couple of days here:
The house has 4 bedrooms-- there are 2 of us Americans (Michael, a friend who doesn't come until next week, and I) and 2 Dutch guys our age (Peter, and a guy who isn't hardly ever around). Peter's mom works for the water board where Michael Dirkse will be working, so that is how this arrangement was made. When I arrived Friday afternoon I unpacked and took some time to meet Peter. Peter made him and I dinner, and afterwards we went to the grocery store, took a tour of the town (about 50,000 residents) by bike, and visited his parents (who live 5 minutes away by bike).
Today, Saturday, Peter and I went to his house for his sister's birthday party. Peter's grandparents and family friends were there for the party. It is an interesting thing to be in a group that is only speaking Dutch-- once in a while they would stop and explain to me what they were talking about, but for the most part I would try & figure out what they were saying based on similar words or and gestures. Despite this difficulty it was still a fun time.
The hospitality of the people here has been wonderful so far, they have worked hard at making me feel welcome and comfortable. Enjoy the pictures of our living quarters!

Hope to talk to you again soon.

P.S. I trust your first full day of work was good. Can't wait to hear the details.
