Our flight wasn't until 4:00pm, but we decided to "vanpool" with Judy and Knox rather than make the guide and/or driver come all the way to Michamvi twice in one day. Arrangements had been made for us to leave our bags at the Serena Inn for the afternoon, and we walked around and did some last-minute souvenir-shopping before heading to the airport for what will hopefully be our last puddle-jumper flight for a while.
The official itinerary for the Zanzibar extension to this trip includes a "farewell dinner" in Dar es Salaam on the last day. The way flight schedules worked out, we were the only ones actually able to take advantage of this. We were met in Dar by another representative of Active Africa, who loaded us into yet another car. Slogging through rush hour traffic, it took us over an hour to get to the area where we would be eating dinner.
It seemed to be sort of an open air mall. We were initially told that we would be given vouchers we could use at several different restaurants. Our guide left as us at the first restaurant to go find which other ones would take the voucher. We think he may have been going around asking for kick-backs, because when he returned half an hour later he said we would just eat there, and he evaded our questions about other options.
It was a nice enough place with a nice view, although it was cloudy and getting dark outside by the time we were seated. The food was nice but not particularly memorable. We even forgot to write down the name of the place where we ate..
