Alleppey is usually the main starting point for the backwater house boat trips. Given we had no money for a house boat cruise you might find yourself asking why did we come here.
We had actually come here to have a sticky at the Temple Festival that kicks off in and around Alleppey every Christmas. Other than that it's similar to Kollam in that it's a busy little market town if you want to do a little shopping.
The festival itself was a little disappointing but it was only night 1 and it goes for 10 days so maybe it got better as time went on. We unfortunately didn't have time to stick around.
Probably a great little place to stop at if you're going on a house boat but otherwise keep on going south or north and skip Alleppey.
