Beach Time.. It's Been A While In-Between Drinks..

Hello from beautiful Kerala and Varkala Beach in particular.

01 Varkla Beach..

To say we were looking forward to getting to this particular place in India is an understatement. It had been some time since we'd been able to throw off the clothes and immerse ourselves in the heavenly salt water of Mother Earth's ocean. To be able to do it in such an exotic locale was an immense bonus.

That being said we did have some realistic expectations of an Indian beach. We had heard horror stories from friends and Kat's own experiences in Goa. Hoards of perving Indian men descending on the beach daily (some masturbating), locals taking their morning dump on or surrounding the beach and in full view of the sun baking tourists, mangy dogs scratching their fleas all over the place and just the usual Indian rubbish strewn all over the place.

02 Varkala Fisherman..

Fortunately it was nothing like this. The beach was segregated for the most part with Indians at one end and tourists at the other, sounds terribly like apartheid but an unfortunate necessity due to the sexual harassment suffered by western women at beaches further North (Goa etc). If a group of fully clothed men (some in suits) started making their way down the beach they were generally turned around by the authorities.

We spent a week doing nothing but swimming and sun baking, eating fresh fish, drinking cocktails and generally just soaking up the loveliness that is Varkala beach. Apologies for the lack of photos, we sort of forgot we were supposed to do anything other than nothing.

This place comes highly recommended by the Cole's.
