Greetings from Termessos, the city in the clouds.

After 4 days in Olympos doing nothing, what more could one ask than to do a hike uphill in 40+ degrees heat to see a ruined city. That being said however, it has to be the most spectacularly sited ruined city in Turkey with a beautiful mountain backdrop. The Termessians lived in this impregnable fortress city from around 400BC and were the only race to successfully fight off Alexander the Great (not so great now are you mate).

The highlight was certainly the theatre which is incredibly preserved and as you can see from the photos there was no one there but us and two friends we met in Olympos, Johan and Marianne. It took some blood, sweat and tears (mine) to get there but what an amazing reward, so good in fact we simply sat there and took it all in for 45 minutes. Well Kat and I were actually just trying to catch our breath. Slovakia seems so long ago.

Anyways, the site is dotted with temples, markets, houses, gymnasiums, cistern, tombs and sarcophagi which were all ruined during a series of great earthquakes. Still, for such an amazing site that's really received no restoration efforts by the Turkish government the place is in amazing condition (did I say that already?). Add to that the fact that there's no one else there everyone should put it on their itinerary.

I guess there's not a lot more to say about Termessos other than if you're ever passing through Antalya and have a couple of hours to kill, get to Termessos as you will not be disappointed. Truly a rewarding experience.

Next stop Goreme - Cappadocia.

Nath and Kat.
