Greetings from Olympos.

Well we only just made it out of Kas alive after my cannonballing escapapdes. And look where we've ended up, hippyville. Well, a strangely modernised version of it you could say.

Kas is famed for its ruins, beach and tree houses and we've come for all three. We've also come to Olympos to catchup with a couple we also met in Istanbul, the lovely Ben and Helen from Sydney.

Olympos is a funny little spot. It seems to be one of the last real backpacker hangouts in Turkey but has also become a big Turkish hangout. I'm not sure who's the dominating force in town but I think the Turks are slowly but surely claiming the town back from the backpackers as the majority of places to stay are air-conditioned bungalows as opposed to treehouses only as it was 10 years ago.

Our first night was spent in a treehouse and funnily enough it was our only night as they're not much chop. We really felt like we were sleeping in Bart Simpsons treehouse. It was humid, hot and the bugs just munched away at you all night. Add to that a couple of scandinavian backpackers getting up at the crack of dawn and talking to each other as loudly as humanly possible, probably about how hot and humid it was.

It seems to be one of the constants we've encountered everywhere, the fact that scandos talk as loud as possible to each other even when they're in the same room. As a race are they all deaf or something? (Johan and Marianne, you're an exception to the rule!)

Needless to say we moved to an air-conditioned bungalow the next night.

So we had a lovely 4 or so days in Olympos hanging out with Ben and Helen, Johan and Marianne and a couple of other people. Life simply exisited of breakfast in the morning, walking down to the beach and swimming for a few hours before heading back to the pensione for an afternoon nap then heading back to the restaurant for dinner and some evening drinking and chat time. Life was pretty tough one could say.

Sadly we forgot to take any photos apart from of our first night treehouse so we can't show you anything and I know that a few of you can't read and only look at the photos. No doubt there's plenty on the web though so off you pop then.

Ben and Helen, thanks so much for your enjoyable company over the 3 or so days. Hope the rest of your travels work out and your 6 or so months in China are fruitful. We certainly look forward to catching up back in Sydney for a cold beer in Manly.

Hope all is well on the home front.

Nath and Kat.
