It was late on an eerily quiet and moonless night when we entered Brasov. Could it be true, could we be in Transylvania after all these years of my harbouring a secret need ? Would the great man come out and suck our blood dry. Probably not but if we hung around too long the dirty little gypsy bastards would come out of nowhere and rob us poor that's for sure.

Yes we're in Transylvania, Romania and to be more specific we're in Brasov, a pretty little hill town that we were using as a base to visit a couple of towns around the region.

Yes it's true I love Dracula, in fact I love all things horror related. Zombies are by far my favourite but generally I just love bloodsucking freaks. For those of you in the know or those of you that have read or seen Bram Stoker's Dracula, you'll know the Dracula legend is loosely based on a 15th century Romanian ruler known as Vled Tepes or Vled the Impaler. But more on him later.

Anyway, I've dragged Kat along with me to Transylvania to see Dracula's castle and his birth place plus we heard that Brasov is a lovely little place to spend a couple of days so that's what the next couple of pods will relate to. They're going to brief as we really didn't get up to a great deal so I'm sure you're all happy about that.

So, Brasov's a nice enough little place. It has European buzz about it with plenty of cute restaurants serving a mixture of local and italian cuisine. In winter it's apparently covered in snow and doubles as the main ski town of Transylvania. Quite pretty and certainly worth visiting for itself or to use as a base for exploring the region.

The highlight certainly has to be the main square but there's some good hiking in the local area including a walk up a large hill behind Brasov that affords commanding views of the area. It also commands views of all the Romanians sunbathing naked. Man, everywhere you looked there was fat naked people soaking up rays. It was like being back in London but much much worse. A true to life horror picture if I had to be honest.

So that's Brasov in a nutshell, like I said these next couple will be brief.

Next pod, Bran - Romania.

Nath and Kat.
