Where I stayed
Spent 3 days in Memphis. Visited Graceland (Elvis Mansion). Did an audio tour through his Mansion, his museums, his two private jets and his car museum. Also the site where he and his parents are buried is on the property so stood on top of Elvis. That night saw a few blues bands at BB Kings the famous Blues Club on Beale street. Beale street is a few hundred meters long and packed with blues clubs and bars, heaps of atmosphere and lots of fun.
we went to the very old and fancy Peabody hotel, were every day at exactly 11am and 5pm, trained ducks which live at the ducks palace on the roof come down the elevator, across the red carpet to hang in the fountain all day. About a hundred people a day gather to watch the ducks do their walk of fame. pretty funny stuff, after 3 months they retire the ducks and train new ones, don't ask how!
The next day visited Sun Studios "The Birthplace of Rock and Roll". Opened by rock pioneer Sam Philips and where artists like Johnny Cash, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis & Roy Orbison made their famous hits and started there careers in the 1950's :)
Then did a tour of the Gibson Factory and saw the process of making guitars, next we visited the civil rights museum and the spot where Martin Luther King was shot on his hotel balcony. That afternoon took a walk to the Mississippi river foreshore, follow by dinner a Hard Rock Cafe.
Last day in Memphis visited STAX, the creator of southern soul and many famous gospel, funk, jazz and blues recordings. Next stop Dallas via a 10hour bus ride.
Much love from the U.S.A
