Jambo!
Curiosity got the best of me this afternoon and I had to pop in to google what an overwhelming number of the locals seem to keep calling me ("Muzungo"). Go figure... it means "white man" in Swahili. I'll take it... been called worse.
Currently find myself on the beautiful island of Zanzibar off the coast of Tanzania. Split the time up nicely - spent two nights on the northern beaches and then drove down to Stone Town yesterday, which is more of the main port town. Did some amazing snorkeling while I was at the beach, went on a spice tour yesterday and got to see how just about every spice imaginable is grown, and have otherwise just been hanging out and taking it all in - shot a lot of great photographs, did some shopping in these sweet candlelight markets, accidently ate some crazy red chili pepper and still can't feel my tongue, etc.
I'm leaving Zanzibar on the 7am ferry tomorrow morning and heading north to Arusha. From there you can picture me sporting a safari hat as we'll be spending a few days in the Serengeti and finishing up the trip in the Ngorongoro Crater - where, yes Toby, I will be sure to get a bigger stick. :)
I only have two hopes for next week that will make my African adventure complete - 1) We get there before the end of the Wildabeest Migration (or at least catch some of the stragglers) and 2) that I see a Leopard and therefore can officially check off seeing the "big 5" in my lifetime. I really dont think that's too much to ask.
I can't believe how fast the end of my two months of travels is approaching -
Looking forward to getting back to DC though and seeing everyone!
