Well today i woke up on my birthday in Ho Chii Minh city and after the lovely people at the Metrople sung and gave me flowers at breakfast (which Ral told me were from him) we were off to the airport for another flight. We arrived back in Hong Kong a bit worried about what we would encounter this time but after a long windy bus ride across Lantau Island we arrived at the Silvermine Beach Resort. "Beach Resort" is a generous term because although you are right near the beach, it is not a beach you can swim in. The hotel was miles ahead of our last Hong Kong experience and after we got settled, (with no help from the Hotel staff)we went down to the restaurant for the buffet dinner. i though the food was okay, but then i didn't try the raw snails like Ral did. Needless to say The next morning Ral was not feeling so well and decided to stay at the hotel while i set out to explore Lantau. First i went to see the Giant Buddha, the world tallest outdoor bronze Buddha and it was breathtaking. Not only because of the way it looked but also because i had to walk up about 200 steps to actually reach it. Nearby is the Po Lin Monastery which has lots of temples and places of worship that were beautifully decorated. Not far away is the wisdom path which i walked up to see the poles with a prayer written on them, which if you can read (and understand) you are said to have achieved complete wisdom (i couldn't quite make out the last pole, otherwise i would have had it! i swear!) Near the Giant Buddha is the village of Ngong Ping where a new cable car ride has opened up which takes you 5.7km up the side of a mountain and over water. It was really windy and pretty scary especially on my own. That was enough adventures for me so i headed back to my sick husband and brought him some Maccas (which he was convinced would cure him.) The next day we were off to Penang, Malaysia!
