Hi everybody, this entry is a little bit late as at the moment we are in Ho Chi Minh City, but first things first i wanted to put a brief blog about our stopover in Hong Kong. The flight from Cairns was not to bad, probably because we aren't over flying yet and can still be easily entertained by the movies! We got to Hong Kong airport at about 8pm and trying to find our way around was actually easier than we thought. We caught a bus to Kowloon and then had to wade through the hundreds of people on the streets trying to sell us watches while we were lugging our big suitcases. we were staying at the Mirador Mansions which is nothing like it sounds and after we figured out how to get to our "Hotel" on level 13 (that should have been my first clue to run!), we were shown to out\r room. We didn't need a tour of the room because we could barely even stand in it with our suitcases! The room was literally the size of a king bed and after our double bed it left us with about 1 metre to stand in. Ral could actually touch all 4 walls at the same time. After that initial shock we quickly left the hotel to wander around and try to spend as little time as possible in the room. we took a walk down to the avenue of stars and around the streets to get our bearings before going back to the hotel for the night where i think i slept 2 hours (we had no window so i was freaking out all night unable to sleep!)The next day i waited until about 6am before i decided i couldn't stay in the room any longer and woke Ral up. we had a big day ahead of us anyway. We walked down to the ferry terminal and caught the boat across to Hong Kong Island, and then caught the double decker bus to the base of the Peak Tram. It is basically the world steepest railway and from the top there are great views of the Kowloon area. we hung around at the top of the Peak for a while looking at the shops and getting some little donuts with caramel sauce that were awesome (sorry Tony Ferguson!). We then made our way to Stanley Market driving past Repulse Bay and getting some great views of the city. Stanley markets were the best we had seen yet and if we didn't have to watch our weight limits, im sure we would have bought heaps. Stanley also has a war memorial cemetery there which was really interesting. By this time we were buggered so we headed back to Kowloon to shower and then go to the light show at 8pm. From the Avenue of Stars you get a great view of the show, where all the buildings on Hong Kong Island light up and have lasers etc. while music blares out the speakers. That night we went and tried a traditional Cantonese meal. Because we didn't know what to order we got the set menu, which much to my delight included eal (with bones!), bbq duck with was hanging behind the glass, and rice (which is what i ate)Ral seemed to like the eal and although i tried a bit, i thought it was horrible. The next morning we had to get up bright and early to catch a flight to Vietnam, so we said goodbye to our shoe box and couldn't get away quick enough! Thats all for now, ill post a message about Vietnam probably tomorrow, Bye for now xxxxxxx
