They still live in squalor and I wonder where the aid money went that came pouring in from around the world. Perhaps the answer is political. I saw so much hardship and gave bits of money here and there. One fisherman had a hugh hole in his net and I made a contribution towards a new one. I kept getting requests to visit people in their homes, the motive was obvious but understandable.
Even though they have little they do not complain but try and get on with their lives. Unlike many of us with more material things many of us never seem to be satisfied with what we have. These people stillretain their sense of humour. As I usually take my food in roadside stalls they are curious about me. When I tell them that I come form England they ask how can that be because I have a dark skin similar to theirs. So I have to explain that my origin is India, followed by a brief spell in Tanzania then the UK.
Another question is why my wife is not travelling with me. I have to expalin that she is looking after her elderly parents, and that they find very acceptable. Its in their culture as well
