Mendoza is one of the major wine areas. The vines came with the missionaries in the 17 century and developed since then. The whole area is covered with vineyards of varying sizes. Before I came to Mendoza I stayed a couple of nights at San Rafael which is also in wine country but much smaller. I took a couple of wine tours and one to a fruit farm. I must say I enjoyed the fruit farm more. I was amazed at the diversity of the stuff they grew in addition to some wine making. In this area the quality of fruit is excellent. I had peaches the size of small melons and very juicy. It is also the time of year for cherries and they were very cheap to buy. Its possible to live here very cheaply.

In addition to the wine tours I also took a trip to the surrounding region which is quite dry. There is a canyon which is quite interesting but not too deep. The most interesting feature was different colour of the rocks and the erosion.

Mendoza is the last town of my time in Argentina. I shall be sorry to leave.
