Getting to this place was testing. I was told about Porto Lopez as the place to go to see whales. The bus was the worst I have travelled on so far because this is an out of the way place the big companies donīt seem to come here. We seemedto go into every single little village and pick up every passenger who flagged us down. Its quite interesting that some of them have their shopping for the week or month comprising of sacks of carrots potatooes etc and these are all loaded on.

Anyway the arrival was worth it. The bay was visible from one end to the other and ringed with palms. There were blue fishing boats at one end where in the evening the fishermen brought their catches and there was a little market on the beach. During all this activity there were frigate birds abd pelicans everywhere trying to get scraps that were being unloaded. No one seemede to mind me walking about and taking pictures.

The hotel that had been recommended to me was right on the front and I had a room with a balcony overlooking the beach. They had strung a hammock and in the evening I had a lie in it. Unfortunately that was missing was the gin and tonic. That night I went to sleep to the sound on crashing waves. It was so goo that I stayed here 6 days in all.
