Decided on the spur of the moment t leave Panama and go to someshere quiet. The hour flight only cost 42 pounds. Thisd place is on an island and not far away is Isla Colon which is named after Chrisopher Colombus. Only 4000 people live here and is mostly surrounded by jungle. There are only one or two roads into the plance. The alternative to flying was to take the bus whcih I think takes over 12 hours but costs only about 10 pounds. The airstrip is tiny and after I collected my bag from the side of a very small terminal building it took me about 7 mins to walk from there to the main street.

This region has a very Carribean feel to it. The weather is more stable in that whereas Panama City had regular thunder storms there have been none here so far. The English here is very much the Jamican type. I was lucky to find a really good hostel where I have a single room ensuite for 6 pounds a night. It is very central but the only drawback is the loud music at night from the clubs. The place is run by a man of Indian extraction whose grandfather; a moslem. came to the area in 1914 and set up a shop. the present owner is married to a German who keeps the place spotless. My room is cleaned every day and there are clean towels. The sea front is about 50 feet away but there are cafes etc along it so one cannot see the water.Definately a place to chill.

Another surprise was an Indian restaurant run by a girl who came here 14 years ago and set up home with a Belgian. She started cooking by chance and is now serving some nice things. Her mother lives in Toronto wnot too far from some of my relatives. A small world.
