This old city was the first European city on the Pacific and was built about 500 years ago. Unfortunately for the inhabitants a hundred years later Caprtain Henry Morgan turned with 1200 priates and ransacked the place. They set fire to what remained and the place was left derelict. Near the entrance to the museum were local handicrafts being sold by Indians wearing very colourful costumes. One of the things they produce is molas which is multilayered sewing by the Kuna people. I got one of these and a few other bits and pieces.

A stall holder selling local fruit drinks. She made me a concoction of different fruits which was delicious and cost a pound. After I had drunk it I suddenly thought that it was a very foolish thing to do as I was not sure about the water. However I since discovered that the water is ok. Its only in the remoter parts that one has to be a bit more careful. I have met someone who has a bug which has been with her for about three weeks. I have made sure that my medical policy is handy.
