So much to do!!! I really had to figure out what my priorities were for this place because there is just so much to do from morning to night!
So I did lots and lots and lots of walking and saw a few exhibits and did a couple of tours...
Mike's Bike Tour - Pretty good. Went around the city a bit then headed out to the country. Went to a dairy farm where they showed us the cheese and clog making.
Nicholas' Canal Tour - The guy who took us on the bike tour recommended this one. The whole canal thing was lovely but the tour guide didn't give too much info about the city, although I did learn about the fine art of bike theft from him.
Boom Chicago - Very funny! This is a comedy theatre type thing. I would say it is most like a cross between 'Whose Line Is It Anyway' and 'Saturday Night Live'.
Anne Frank House - Very interesting. Althought all the furniture, etc was taken out they did a nice job of detaling what each room was for. At the end they had a great interactive presentation on freedom of speech. Basically they would have a small presentation on so,e global free speech issue then ask the audience a yes/no question then the results would be displayed.
Van Gogh Museum - Loved it. The one thing I find hard about art exhibits is that they often don't tell you ,uch about the artist. Well since this place is completely devoted to Van Gogh it also chronologically went through his life and art. What I didn't know was that he really only painted for ten years. Such variety in such short a time!
Red Light District Tour - Fabulous! This tour was started only a few years ago by an American woman who has lived there for about ten years. She knew lots qnd was very quirky (what else could you expect?!?)
Rembrandt Exhibit - This defenetely wasn't as good as the Van Gogh Museum. I think mostly because all the art work was replicas. He also did way too many portraits for my liking but I guess an artist has to make a living!
Sex Museum - Definetely good for a chuckle :)
I also spent some time in Vondel Park, which is full of interesting people. One day I was there and these guys were just hanging out playing some really good jazz, which was lovely to listen to.
Overall I loved Amsterdam and wish that I had had more time there.
