Lake Powell and the Glen Canyon Dam are the first remarkable landmarks we encounter. The construction of the Glen Canyon Dam brought electricity to millions of households in the southwest and in the process flooded thousands upon thousands of acres of native lands, killing a once vibrant canyon. Much opposition has been expressed on the construction of this dam and to this day many have voiced regret in supporting its construction.
Page Arizona, where we spent the night, was created to house the workers who built Glen Canyon Dam and is now a mecca for boaters and tourists who flock here to enjoy Lake Powell but not much else of note.
