Where the Deer and the Antelope Roam

In southern Idaho we drove through a beautiful area of rolling hills with cultivated fields swirling along the contours of the land, bands of green and gold set against the backdrop of dark rocks and edging up to sharply cut gorges.
Near Ogden we drove west along a 7-mile causeway that connects the mainland to Antelope Island, the largest of 8 islands in the Great Salt Lake. No sooner had we set foot on the island when we began to see bison, members of a 500-head herd that roam the island.
Our campground was set on Bridger Bay with a beautiful view north to Fremont Island. I do no know how we were so lucky but we were given a wonderful waterfront site where we sat and waited for sunset over the Great Salt Lake and as the colors faded we turned to see the full moon rise over the Wasatch Mountains beginning the autumnal equinox, it was magical.
