Well, itīs arrived...my final week at the Don Quijote Spanish language school in Granada...
Class itself hasnīt been too exciting - mostly revising what weīve learned over the last week, in particular the two 'past tenses' that weīve learned and when to use each one of them. Sat my end of course 'test' on Wednesday - not sure exactly what mark I got, but on my certificate itīs listed as 'notable' which is represented by 3 stars (out of a possible 4). So I feel pretty good about that. This week, we had two new students in our class, with Michael leaving:
Thomas - a French guy who is studying wine (what a great job!);
Zoe - an English woman who studies Spanish at Manchester University.
As for my social activities this week...
Monday was a particularly non-social day - I think my body just needed a rest so I tried to have an early night, but unfortunately my body clock is a bit out of sync and I couldnīt fall asleep until about 11.30pm - not really all that much of an early night!
Went out for dinner with fellow students on Tues and Wed - once for Chinese, which was surprisingly good! Thursday I met up with Charlie, an English woman who started at the language school on the same day that I did. We havenīt had any classes together (her Spanish is much much better than mine!) but we get on quite well. Ended up going for a few drinks and a bit of a boogie and I ended up back at the residence at about 4 in the morning. Didnīt set my alarm to get up for class, and woke up at 8.40 with classes starting at 9am. Managed to get to school by 9.05am and wasnīt actually the last one to arrive at class, so felt fractionally better about that. But I was definitely in need of a siesta on Friday afternoon.
On Friday evening, I met up with Ampa - a friend of my former flatmate Edel. Edel did a school exchange here and Ampa was her 'Spanish sister'. Was interesting because although she does speak English, we spent about an hour and a half speaking Spanish. I canīt say that my Spanish was perfect, but it was nice to have a (mostly) normal conversation in Spanish. I spoke to Ampa on the phone when I first arrived and it was a very very stilted conversation. But yesterday she said that there was a noticeable difference in the quality of my Spanish, so the lessons must have done me some good!!!
I leave Granada for Italy on Sunday July 15 - I fly to Barcelona and then take an overnight train to Milan and then a normal train from there to Florence, where hopefully Iīll manage to meet up with Kirsten, Amanda and Claire.
And that was my month in Granada.......
