Before I left London, lots of people said that they were very jealous of me īliving the dreamīby going off and learning Spanish in Spain for a month.  After having been here for nearly a week, Iīd just like to point out some of the practical difficulties Iīve been faced with - so that you can have some idea of whatīs itīs really like...

1.  Time
I think I may have mentioned in earlier entries that this week my classes have started at 9am and have finished at 1pm.  This leaves me with absolutely nothing to do in the afternoons except have a siesta, read my book, and see the sights of Granada...And so far, it looks like next week is going to get tougher - they told us today that our class is now going to be in the afternoons from 3pm to 7pm, so I wonīt have anything to do all morning and for half the afternoon, and will probably have to go straight from class to the nearest bar.... Itīs going to be tough!

2. Weather
Granada can get quite hot during the afternoons and evenings - one of the few ways to truly cool down in the heat (about 30 degrees) is to take myself off to a cafeteria and order myself an ice cream or a glass of sangria.  Neither of which goes a great deal towards my healthy eating plan.  So, yet another problem.

And itīs sunny all the time!!! When am I ever going to be able to wear the jeans I brought with me - such a nuisance ;-)

3. Food
There are so many cafeterias, tapas bars and restaurants in Granada that deciding on a place to eat is a mission in itself.  Makes getting food take a long time (although see above for comments re time and amount available to me).

And itīs really really frustrating that when you order a drink at a bar, you automatically get a free plate of tapas with it...what if youīre not hungry???

4. Shoes, shoes, shoes
Luckily Iīve only come with my big rucksack which is pretty full so I canīt buy anything, but itīs only been a week and itīs been a constant battle against the temptation to try on (and potentially buy) a pair of shoes.  Theyīre everywhere!!!  Itīs a tough battle to fight, but someoneīs got to do it, right?

5. Drink
Iīm probably in serious danger of becoming an alcoholic due to the range and availability of sangria & vino.  Thereīs nothing more damaging for my liver (I think) than me sitting and having a glass or two of vino tinto with my dinner every night.

So, as you can see, itīs not all sweetness and light...think of me when youīre going about your daily grind - my lifeīs tough too!!

Hasta luego
