A detour to Vienna

After being in Budapest a week, time was becoming an issue so I made tracks and got the first bus out. I found myself in Vienna again! In the last 3 years I've been to Vienna 3 times. Once to the airport, once to the train station and once to the central coach station, but I've never been round the city. Impressive, eh!

When I got to Vienna, I couldn't take the bus I wanted and couldn't find a hostel there either. So I decided that the only option was to take a bus somewhere else (I didn't fancy sleeping on the streets!). Luckily, there was a bus to Krakow, Poland - where I'd spent a couple of days the year before.

The bus arrived at its destination 2 hours early. I thought "Fuck, am I somewhere else?" But no one, who was around at 3.30am, could speak English to tell me where I was and I had no map, hostel address, phone number or internet connection. Totally lost!!

After walking around like a mindless muppet for about 2 hours, I decided to try to sleep - but failed - at the bus station until 9am when i might be able to get some info. I spent the next 4 hours sleeping rough with homeless Poles - a less than pleasant experience (for them!).

Luckily, at 9am I managed to sort things out and get a hostel. And, yes, i was in Krakow - phew!

For all of you that don't know, Krakow is a really cool city. It's young - 2 universities - has a really good nightlife 4 a small city and is a very pretty and relaxing place to hang out. You should try it.

I got round to visiting Auschwitz this time, the year before I was too busy partying! It's a morbid place, but worth a visit as something this tragic shouldn't be forgotten! Check out the pics!

Lesson 5: Book a hostel before you arrive in a country - again pretty obvious, but I failed to do it twice in 2 days - nice!
