Ugghh, a day of flying, 3 different flights to get from Hobart, Tasmania to Christchurch, New Zealand. And one lousy picture of Theo sitting in Sydney Airport with our backpacks covered in thick hiking liner bags (from Castle Mountain Visitor Centre, better than any bag we have ever got from an airline!). Not much excitement this day! We arrived in Christchurh 11:30pm (another 2 hour time change, we had just barely adapted to the time zone change from Calgary to Tasmania!) and had a bit of excitement at quarantine. We had declared that we had food, including meat, as well as camping gear. That meant we had to go through a search of our bags. Most of our food was fine to go through; ironically our Alberta beef sausages could have gone through it the heavy labels had been left on stating the contents and origin (apparantly U.S. beef is not allowed though). The guy at quarantine was chatty, and after seeing our clean boots, and learning that Nadine was a doctor, he decided that our tent must be clean, and did not make Theo take it out (must to Theo's relief and unloading the tent was a huge chore!).
Eventually we got a cab into town where we had a room booked at Stonehurst Accomodations downtown. At 1:00 am we had a drink of Kahlua Especiale on our balcony with some chocolate, the night was warm and the drunk party people were stumbling home to our amusement, and then we crashed!
