Another flying day!
We had already booked a flight from Bariloche to Puerto Montt even before arriving to Argentina (as booking that second leg was cheaper than just booking the flight from Santiago to Bariloche). We never thought we would use that flight, but now we realized that we could fly cheaper down south to hike Torres del Paine by flying through the Chilean air carrier LAN than we could by flying with an Argentinian carrier. But from Puerto Montt we had to wait a day before we could fly to Punta Arenas, where we would catch a bus to Puerto Natales, the town closest to Torres del Paine National Park.
The flight was pretty cool, seeing bits of the huge Heilo Sur glacier.
At Punta Arenas airport we booked a bus to Puerto Natales. It wasnīt leaving for about 1.5 hrs so we had lunch (burgers with avacodo!) and chilled a bit. It was funny to see all the hikers with their big packs hanging around the airport. And all kinds of hikers, Aussies, Germans, Brits, young and not so young. And of course you canīt help but size each other up, or at least size each otherīs gear out! Bus to Puerto Natales took about 3 hrs and drove across shrubby brushland...
