Riding back on the bus from Colonial Suiza, the end of the trailhead, we were happy to have a couple of days off. We made our way back to the hostal Venezia (sp?), where everyone speaks Spanish and they don't have internet reservations, but they are very friendly, clean and cheap. After getting a room for a couple of nights, we collected our small carry on bags from the previous hotel (more expensive, we just need a clean room!) we showered and bagged up all of our scary smelly hiking clothes and took them to a lavadero, to be ready at 3pm the next day. One lavadero could only promise the clothes ready in two days, just to show you how busy the town was with hikers and tourists.
Basically for the next two days we chilled, ate good food and surfed on the internet. We also ran around Bariloche looking for more Stanwees, as this town is where Stanwee was adopted from! After much looking and begging we were able to "adopt" two more Stanwees. These were not to be replacements for our Stanwee (who is looking rather dirty now a days!) but we felt that he was getting lonely for his own family. No not really! We have young friends in Japan who fell in love with Stanwee and we wanted to give them "Stanwees" of their own!
Then as we were getting ready to start hiking the next day, Theo came down with gastroenteritis. It came on really fast so we think it was something he ate but I was basically fine (resistance from all the sick kids I see at work or just an iron stomach!) with only some stomach rumbling. So we have been spending an extra day in Bariloche letting Theo recover from his body purging out at both ends! Poor guy! He is now eating bland solids and has been receiving lots of live yogurt cultures!
