It is the night before we leave for our one month trip to hike Patagonia, that is, the southern area of Argentina and Chile. Theo has hiked in this area before but it is all new to Nadine! We are planning on hiking most of the time so we are carrying large knapsacks with our essentials and not much else!

As always, Theo is finished packing but Nadine is still freaking out a little bit (yeah actually a lot!). Air Canada's ground crew in Toronto (via which we fly) had a strike over the previous 24 hours, so we are hoping our flights will still be ok. According to the web pages, everything is totally OK, but the phone numbers we can call to enquire are permanently busy.

Our cats Galileo and Kepler can sense our frantic nature as we pack, as they always seem to be able to do before any big trip. Our friend Peter graciously will be staying at our house looking after things, hopefully having a party or two and play with the cats as well (and not kill Nadineīs plants!)!

Packs are weighing in at just over 20 kg each, with a bit of extra duffel carry on that we hope to store along the way whenever we go back woods. Nadine has learned over the years (finally!!!) what some non-essentials are for camping, and is amazed that she is having no problem leaving any clothes that canīt be used for hiking. The thought of carrying a knapsack around for 30 days has helped her learn how to pack light! At this point we will be flying in to Santiago, Chile and immediately flying in to Bariloche, Argentina to start our first hike in the Nahuel Huapi Park.
