We made it! The flight was...it got us here, enough said!
The car arrived at 10am, I got up and drove the lady back to Petra (small town by us), came back, and we all slept until 1:25pm. We had bread, butter and jam that the owner left for us. It tasted sooo good with the sun shining through our kitchen window! Our house is so beautiful, new, but very charming, and very clean and comfortable. We have large kitchen windows and doors opposite that open onto our terrace. Beyond the kitchen is our front terrace. The girls love to play restaurant, and get drinks and food through the window! What a relaxing, and glorious place to be. Everyone is so friendly, kind and warm. Once we were dressed, we intended to go to Petra for supplies, but got very lost and drove around the mountain for an hour! The winding roads make 180 degree turns! We were very scared at first, much better now! Sophie says I drive like the locals, I think that was a compliment!
We found our way, got some food, and took th echildren to a playground next to our parking spot. A few minutes later, there was a loud bang and pop...our car was hit. We ware all fine, thankfully, we were at the park. Our car was trashed, got a new one that evening. The car hire company came to pick me up, they brought me to their shop...somehow, I made it home. All trafic signs are in Greek...the few that are there...really, there are only a few roads, they just wind around...you just have to know where to get off! I ended up on the wrong side of Petra, where the street that was open in the morning, was now closed to cars! The police asked if they could help, but I didn't know where our house was!...so I somehow made it back on my own! What a day!
Next adventure, we found a small stall on the road where a local farmer sells fruits and veg. The best tomatoes, peaches, and arugula! We buy our fruit and veg there, cheap and delish! Oh, and they're all organic! The meat is pastured and organic too!
We bought the best olive oil, undescribably good. We make pasta with an amazing tomato and pecorino sauce for lunch often, and drizzle olive oil liberally...the best!
The second day, I woke up before everyone, and went for a jog, found a bakery (turns out it's owned by the owner of our house), and bought whole wheat bread and butter for breakfast, and croissants. The girls love the chocolate croissants. Mack loves the feta, it's goat, but we're on the hunt for something a little more mild.
We've discovered a very private beach in Kaloni. We feel like we've been stranded on a deserted island! The sea is alive in this spot!...there are sea urchins, little crwling critters, and beautiful shells. The children love this spot! There are no other people, and they love it, they spend 4-5 hours in the shallow, hot sea playing with each other, and floating on their boogie boards...which made it in one piece btw, all you skeptics!
The shops are open from 8-2pm, and 6-?...the lates we stayed out was 10pm, and the towns were coming alive! We're out for dinner tonight, while I write this from the agency office we rented the house from, Sophie is in the taverna next door with the children. dancing to Greek music. The food is amazing, we had grilled fish, we asked what kind...didn't catch what it was!
When we drive at night, Sophie says "la utilise le claxon en masse!", we laugh all day long, we're having so much fun.
We've been to the Thermal Spa at Eftalou. Breathtaking! You bathe in an ancient communal bath, then dip in the sea to cool off! After 2 dips, we felt very relaxed and rejuvenated. The children are always planning things to do with Daddy...they are looking forward to going to the baths with him, so he can throw them up in the air in the sea!
We bought a parasol and 2 reclining beach chairs, because the chairs on the beach are 5Euros.
My time is up, the children want to go home.
Oh, there are fig trees everywhere!...and pomegranite, and lime, and olive and almond trees! We stop, nad Sophie and Mack pick fresh figs during our drives!
Aparently, the owners of the restaurant have sent figs and watermelon for the children. We are in paradise!
Love to all,
Mylene, the children and Sophie.

Oh, Mylene, it sounds like a slice of heaven! How wonderful for you and the children, and of course, for Daan when he arrives. I can't think of any family more deserving of such beauty and happiness. ENJOY!! You know I'm writing to you from your corner of world? My laptop is here with me in Israel, as are Geoff, Stephanie and Reuven, for the month of August. Oh, how exciting if you could 'pop' over for a get together and some sightseeing. One day, maybe. Until then, keep posting from Greece, please! Your descriptions are alive and let me feel as if I'm there with you! Sophie, I look forward to meeting you. Mylene, you are beautiful! Continue to Live, Love, and Laugh! Your friend, Jill
