After a quick jaunt in San Jose, Peter and I traveled to La Fortuna. Which is famous for its Volcano, waterfalls and hot springs.

Catarata de la Fortuna

This way by far the highlight of La Fortuna. We began our hike at 830 am, in total it was a Meier 2 km walk to the entrance. Mind you, it was hot, humid and nearly vertical :)
Upon reaching the gate, we had to pay a steep 10usd entrance fee. Fortunately, everything goes to preserve the beautiful parks. To our dismay, we had to go all the way back down (then up). In the end, it was worth every once of sweat. We rounded the corner and discovered a beautiful 70 m ribbon of clear sparkling water. The waterfall was pouring out of dark volcanic rock and surrounded by lush rain forest. It was a sight to be seen. We could not resist the swimming holes at the base of the falls. It was cool, refreshing and the perfect compliment to our hike.

Note: for anyone doing this trip, I'd recommend Neptune's. They offer fresh smoothies for 2 usd. Watermelon, Guava and pineapple.

Eco Danaus

The Eco center was a LP recommendation, and worth the trip. The small Eco center is just 3km from town and a great place to spot wild life in their natural habitat. We spotted a 3 toed sloth, coati, poison dart frogs and tonnes of butterflies. In addition, the center has a section dedicated to the indigenous people of Costa Rica. You will need to speak Spanish, or pay extra for an English speaking guide.
