Flag of Thailand  , Chiang Mai,
Wednesday, April 20, 2011

The Locals say " you have not seen chiang mai, until you have visited the Wat Phra Thai Doi Suthep". I believe this to be true!! The Wat is located in Poi Suthep Pui Nation Park. The name is derived from Chiang Mai's sacred peaks, Doi Suthep and Soi Pui. The Wat sits on top of Doi Sutheps Summit and overlooks the city and can be reached by climbing 306 steps.

The Main cloister and Gold plated Chedi honor the city's  independence from Burma and its union with Thailand.

I have attached several other photos. A few  of Wat Sisatian (1502), the ubosht next door  is the only   silver ornamental hall in Thailand. Its also where Joe's Son attended primary school.
