I was recommended Bomvu Backpackers on many occasions. If you are interested in relaxing (but being close to the party at Coffee Shack) it is the place to be. Bomvu is situated on the bank of the Red River (Wild Coast) and is surrounded by beautiful tropical gardens with a beach just footstep away. On the way to the beach it is not uncommon to see women hand making beaded jewelry and selling it for a negotiable price J If you are lucky you will catch someone selling crayfish and muscles for a very good price.

The Bay itself is not that large but is stunning. It is hugged by a huge cliff with a perfect rural setting in the background. On the hills you can watch Xhosa people in traditional dress herding there sheep.

In the morning I was always up to join in a Yoga class or just some yoga on the beach. If you are interested they also offer massage, surfing, Lots of hiking, bead making, village tours and drumming lessons.

At night Bomvu comes alive with traditional Xhosa dancers and some excellent drummers. I decided to join in and learn a few traditional beats myself. However, I was unable to get the dancing down. I don't think it is possible for my butt in such a manner. It was really nothing short of a miracle to see them move.

Bomvu was where I feel in love with Xhosa food. One evening we went to a traditional Xhosa Headsman dinner. There was traditional dancing, singing, drumming, wonderful food and fantastic Xhosa bread. If you are heading this way, I recommend you pass on the surfing and dive straight in to the traditions.
