After reading Long road to freedom I had to visit Robben Island and see for myself. Most of the tourists flocked to the harbor and went on the tour with a smile upon there face, but left with a new respect and grim look on reality.

What I did not know is that the island has been a dumping ground for what society deemed unfit, everything from the prison to the leper community that was left to live there lives completely isolated by society.

For those that are not familiar with the island, it is well known by Nelson Mandela and the years he and his colleges spend imprisoned under apartheids rules. After suck a brutal history, the thing that stands out the most is the peace and wisdom of those that suffered. After listening to stories from our guide (old inmate) I was brought to tears. But completely amazed that a culture can learn only right from such wrong. "Two wrongs do not make a right" I was told. But to practice suck advise in your daily live is incredible. Not to hate or to do wrong to others is a strength that I think the rest of the world should have.
