Kutna Hora is a mining town that once supplied more silver than perhaps anywhere else in europe. It doesn't have any silver any longer obviously, but we were able to tour the mine (an event for which we had to don white coats, hard hats, and flashlights, then parade a short walk through the town with school children laughing). i do believe i conquered my fear of small, dark, wet spaces
Also saw a very majestic church called St. Barbra's (the patron saint of miners) and also a much smaller but much more morbid church decorated with human bones. and when i said decorated, i mean covered with candelabras, a coat of arms, and words all made entirely of bones. Also four gigantic pyramids. They are supposed to represent the endless multitudes facing God on the day of judgement. The bones are from mass graves created during the plague and the countless wars in the area. I got a kinda sick feeling after about 20 minutes.
Back in Prague and in a free wifi cafe with my roommate, Shauna. Found it in the english language daily Prague Post.
