Flag of Austria  , Austrian Alps,
Friday, September 26, 2008

From Verona we caught a train to the bordertown between Italy and Austria, Brennero I think it was called. We had to spend an hour and a half there which was fine as it was a lovely little town surrounded by snow capped mountains. We had some bratwurst and coffee and then had a bit of trouble finding another human being at the deserted train station to ask where to catch our train from! The air was cold and crisp but the sun was shining which is more than I can say for Innsbruck where we arrived in the rain!

Innsbruck is surrounded by the Austrian alps, however the persistent rain deterred us from doing any hiking which was unfortunate. We went to a place called crystal world.. recommended as 'the' museum/gallery to see in Innsbruck... I would not agree, it was a bitter disappointment. The best thing about it was the entrance, a big face of a man with a waterfall coming from its mouth which was made out of grass and stuff. The inside was a series of exhibitions, installations, art work made out of crystals etc. and it was packed full of people!! They did have some gardens outside with a big maze made out of hedges that was semi cool.

Apart from that we ate some German/Austrian food including knodel (a sort of potato and speck dumpling..yum!) and wienerschnitzel, walked around town and along the river, got lost in the rain and then decided to leave a day earlier than planned in order to get closer to Munich.. motivation.. Oktoberfest!
