On our second day in Dubrovnik we went on a day trip tot he bordering country, Montenegro. Montenegro is the newest country in the world only gaining independence in 2006. We went in a little mini bus driven by a friend of Nicolas with a Canadian couple and a Slovakian couple we had met in Nicola's car the day before. It was a 2.5 hour drive to our first stop in the city of Kotor. It was similar to Dubrovik but even more impressive, a similar old town and high walls but this castle continued up the mountain and after a 45 minuet hike we were rewarded with some stunning views of the fjords. We were incredibly lucky as the weather was clear as we walked and as soon as we got back to the car it bucketed down.
The company was great and we all ate lunch together in Kotor. The food in Montenegro is similar to Croatia which is similar to Hungarian, lots of goulash and fried meat, as well as having a lot of Italian food.
The second stop was a beach resort called Budva. A very nice harbor, another old town and some pebble beaches that were nice. We stopped to have some beer in an old fishermans bar and experienced some communication difficulties, the Canadian guy ordered a cappuccino and an icecream and received a cup of cream.... Dave and I ordered a large beer to share and got one each... a massive huge stein of it that took me aggggggeees to finish!!
Our last stop was in a very quiet little town tight down by the waters edge. The name continues to elude me which is a shame as this is my favourite place in the world!!! It was sooo soo pretty and quiet and nice and all the houses were so pretty and nice and I just wanted to stay there forever. Unfortunately it was already 6pm and it was still a two hour drive back so we had to end our day..
