Monday July 4 2005
Prague, Czech Republic

We finally drove into the Czech Republic at about 5p.m. No time was wasted as we immediately found ourselves in the company of our guide Tanya who showed us around the impressive streets of Prague. What was most striking was a view of the castle with of the city's magical lights. We then went to have a drink and called it a relatively "early" night.

It turned out to be an incredibly rainy day in Praugue. Tanya rushed us through the castle and didn't even give us a good opportunity to take pictures. After her whirlwind escapade, it was time to unleash us. Free at last, I was able to do what was most important to me...explore, explore, explore. But I didn't begin exploring before I purchased a DRY sweater and umbrella from a vendor from Hungary who spoke flawless Spanish. I was thoroughly impressed.

My first stop was the Museum Hracek, the biggest toy museum in the world. I was particularly excited as there was a Barbie exhibit underway. Next, I went to the Zidovske Muesum which consisted of several sub-components: Maisel Synagogue, Old Jewish Cementary, Klaus Synagouge, and the Ceremonial Hall. The most impacting sight was the walls that were filled endlessly with the names of Czech Jews that were murdered during the Holocaust. There was also a powerful display of children's artwork that depicted their emotions about the Holocaust.

After making my way through the museums, I found an internet cafe and quickly made my way back to our meeting place. That night, we enjoyed a traditional Czech dinner which consisted of soup, meat, berry crepes, and some wine. By the end of the day, we were too tired to go out so Delaurie and I ended up philosophizing ourselves to sleep.
