*An excerpt taken from Dick Cameron, Expedition Staff

"The crossing of the Bransfield was in a gentle sea and the passengers were able to have a comfortable night of sleep.

Entering the Antarctic Sound in the early hours of the morning all was quiet until about 0500 hours when all hell broke lose with gale force winds and the sea erupted into a tempest of waves and spray and a snowstorm began to blanket the ship in white.

This storm lasted much of the day but the huge tabular bergs that were grounded in the Sound were indeed a marvel to behold and so passengers were not bored by this enforced confinement to the ship. After penetrating some distance into the Sound with these unbelievably strong winds from the south, the ship came about with the intention of possibly finding calmer seas in the lee f the Peninsular near Gourdin Island. This, however, was not the case and into the Sound we went once again."

Late in the afternoon the winds died down which permitted a visit to Kinnes Cove. A landing was made on bedrock where one had to be very careful of one's footing. Once ashore the passengers were able to make their way alongside a Gentoo rookery and up to an open area where all three bush tail penguins (Gentoo, Adelie, and Chinstrap) could be seen. A good hike brought most of the passengers to overlook where they could see the massive tabular bergs of various shapes that were in the throes of disintegrating slowly but surely in Antarctic Sound."*

After the last Zodiac left the shore, we came back to the ship to enjoy the Captain's Cocktail Reception and Dinner. This was an extra special night as it was Kelly's Birthday! Imagine spending your birthday in Antarctica. I'm sure this is would be unforgettable birthday.
