Hey all!
Just finished up our week long stay on the island of Ko Phangan. Rather than go day by day I will just give you guys a basic idea of what each day consisted of.
Wake up
Muesli, yogurt, fruit and banana shake for breakie
Hit up the beach. Tan, swim, people watch (and boy were there people to watch!)
Lunch (Mama Schnitzel Chicken sandwich mmmmmmmmm)
Cruise town/ internet/ nap
Hit our pool usually around 5...chat it up with our neighbours
Shower and girl prep
Dins/movie
Bevies at someone's bungalow
Hit up the beach...buckets...lots of dancing
Repeat.
So that pretty much sums up our time on the island. A few differences to point out.
First day Nadia and I went to the beach and soon realized we were the only fair haired ladies for miles. Our new friends at our hotel then filled us in that it was semester break in Israel and Ko Phangan was their favorite place to vacation. So pretty much half the 20 something population of Tel Aviv was strutting their stuff up and down the beach. I have never seen so many beautiful people in one place before. Men and women, my god they were all gorgeous, with bodies as if they were straight out of boot camp...oh wait....they were pretty much all out of boot camp. Mandatory army service for both sexes in Israel gave us lots to admire as we people watched! In the meantime Nadia and I had splurged on a beach front bungalow ( if you call $35 a night splurging). As the rest of the hotel many was filled with Israeli vacationers we quickly made some amazing friends from the Middle East and spent hours comparing our cultures which was great, great fun for me especially.
Other notables:
-Me getting my foot attacked by the pool filter (which I was warned about with proof of scarring from a friend...but hey I was curious...and now I have a nice scar to warn people about)
-Pool Party at Coral Bungalows where thousand + people crammed into a pool. Nadia and myself literally had no chance and were consistently Hail Mary-ied into the pool. Too many people getting too drunk. By 4 in the morning the water became questionable and we realized Never Again!
-Me (why always me?) dancing on the bar (everyone does it I swear) and the bartender Lon is trying to get up and dance with me, but he starts to fall, so I (the hero that I aim to be) try to grab his hand, but he is too heavy and I begin to fall with him, but I grab onto a string of lights (not smart) and suddenly the power to the bar goes out (ooops!) and everyone looks at me like I'm just another drunk white girl falling off the bar, BUT I was sober as I get and I was just trying to save the poor guy! Next night the lights were still not back up. But by the night of the Full Moon Party they were. So up I got to dance again and the bartenders thought it would be sooooo funny to start taking the lights down. Jesters they are, those Thai bartenders.
- Full Moon Party October edition....Lets just say Pemberton squished into a beach 1/10 of the size. I know I have used the words mayhem and craziness and gongshow in past entries, but this party takes the cake. I don't know how to really describe it. One of those things you just have to witness. Nadia and I had spent 6 previous nights on the beach and each night it would get more and more busy. So by the time that the Full Moon party came, we were pretty tuckered out. Basically we just spent the night taking in the madness and making fun of people. Ha it was probably the best form of entertainment we've had to date! Fire throwers and jugglers, dance stages in the water, fireworks, lanterns, snakes and lizards, people laying all over the place, black lights, body painting, crazy outfits (Smurfs...batman and joker...rock stars....bad eighties work out gear)....I could go on.
- Best night of the week, however, was Canadian Thanksgiving which Nadia and I spent having a delicious sushi dinner, with two awesome Israeli guys, in Thailand!! Who would have thunk it!?
So here we are back in Bangkok now. Taking a breather. Organizing a Visa run and our next stop out to Ko Chang before my brother and Kris get here in two weeks.
Hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving and voted your hearts out!
