Nadia and I undertook our official Asia Training Camp last weekend, also known as Pemberton Music Festival. We considered it training camp for the following reasons
#1. Melt Me Heat
#2. Thousands of people living in tight quarters
#3. Nasty bathrooms
#4. Alcohol all day every day (replacing food)
#5. Carrying all our worldly possessions on our backs, shoulders ( and laundry baskets)
#6. Crazy house music
#7. Dust
#8. Randoms
Thursday (24) :Arrived to absolute mayhem at the airport strip. Got in line to park which took 6 hours. Security told us if we had any alcohol we better drink it, or else it would be taken upon entry. Lets just say the tarmac turned into a wild pre-party in 30+ heat. Finally loaded us up onto school buses with all our stuff, and shipped us to the campgrounds, which turned out to be a free-for-all no booze was confiscated....
Friday (25): WOW. Spent part of the day in the beer gardens. Went to the Bacardi Live tent for the evening. Beyond words. Thousands of people dancing their faces off to Chromeo (amazing), Tommy Sunshine, Junkie XL and more. Our crew swiped a lounge area and took the rest of the evening in from above. One of the most insane nights of my life. It actually got to the point that people were coming through the walls and floor to try and get in once they shut the line off....
Saturday (26): Spent the day checking things out. Went to watch Tragically Hip. Nadia unintentionally crowd surfed, but came back to us in one piece. Ate some PACHOOOOS (fried potatoes with melted cheese and chives and some special sauce mmmmm). Returned to stage to witness the king, Tom Petty, front and centre. Amazing.
Sunday (27): Last Day :( But went out with a bang. Nadia and I started by purchasing Ninja shoes to bring to Asia...which were a hit with the local RCMP. We then took in N.E.R.D. which was a great show. Pharrell is an energizer freak'in bunny. Then it was time for Jay-Z who blew even non-rap lovers away. Topped the night off with a little Cold Play. Got up 5am the next morning and blasted home to the ferry. Recovery commenced...
After all that I can proudly say that we passed training camp with flying colours. We didn't lose any items or each other. AND only minor bumps and bruises. It has only gotten us more excited for whats to come....absolute madness. HEY'OOOOOO!
3 1/2 weeks left and we are en route. Itinerary has somewhat changed. As it will over and over, so i will save writing it down (or creating a speadsheet...).
Hong Kong here we come...are you ready??? Really are you??? We don't think you are.
