Tonight was spent celebrating the birth of our very dear friend Harry. We met Harry and his wife Linda years ago while going on a cruise. They have since become some of our closest friends. Harry is a quiet man, very easy going and will lend a helping hand any time one is needed. We have gotten along right from our first meeting as both he and I have many interests in common, hunting, NASCAR, beer and wives that try and boss us around.

When Gail informed me that it was Harry's birthday and Linda wanted us to dine with them in celebration I gave an immediate thumbs up. Most times I insist that we celebrate such occasions at our home and me doing the cooking but not this time. Before I could get the invitation out there was a suggestion that we go a special restaurant that I had been waiting to try. Perfect, kill two birds with one stone.

Gauchao is a Brazilian Steak House. We had never been to this or any other Brazilian anything. I did my research and found out that these type restaurants are a carnivores paradise. Meat, beautiful meat was the star of the show. Cooked over coals and hand delivered, carved and plated table side. One simply has a card at the table, one side red the other green. When you are finished with the salad bar you simply flip the card to green and let the carnivorous feeding frenzy begin. Beef (the star of the show), pork, chicken, Lamb, sausages and ribs start to arrive at your table by the highly trained servers.

Two minutes into the feast Harry goes green. He could care less about salad and has only beef on his mind. Feeling like I might miss something, I shovel down a nicely hand picked plate of cheese and vegetables so as to get in on these unbelievable skewered hunks of flesh, cooked to perfection. Our entire table was in a state of beefy hysteria. Cut after cut of proteins arrive, one after the other, each with its own flavor and texture, each with its own character. Each mouthful brings forth a host of pleasurable noises, confirming its goodness. Have I died and went to heaven?

After what seemed an eternity, our tanks are full, each of us gasping for breath. Then it happened. One of the servers brings over a roasted cinnamon crusted Pineapple. He then starts to slowly and thinly slice the outer edge of this magnificent fruit with a machete type knife. I try a piece and could not contain myself. I thought that I would only fall in love one time in my life but I was wrong. Words can not explain the comforting feeling and tasteful pleasure this simple fruit delivers. It sooths your over stuff belly and completely fills any desire for desert. God, you may take me now, I am complete!

Driving home all that could be heard was the moans and groans of 4 adults whose tanks were bursting at the seams. Belts and buttons undone, shirts pulled out and each of us wishing for a nice pair of sweatpants and comfortable chair. It was a good night.

So, to my friend Harry, you put on quite the performance. You stood head to head with the "big boys" in the beef eating world. Hold your head high, walk with pride. And lastly a very Happy Birthday to you and may we celebrate many more with you.
