This post really has absolutely nothing to do with our travel adventures. I just wanted to share this so everyone can get an idea of how simple our lives have become.

Gail and I are starting to realize that life in our home on wheels sometimes can get a little boring. It would not be an issue at all but I am to cheap to pay for Direct TV, and our Internet service has been out for 24 hours. One can only watch public television, RTV (has all programing from the 60s, 70s 80s) and very limited network channels from the antenna. Now don't get me wrong, great memories are being had watching Adam 12, Emergency, The Hulk, Marcus Welby and a host of other shows from our younger years but I need more.

There are many things other then TV we both could be doing here at the resort. There is the gym, pool hall, hot tub, swimming pool, the social hall where there is always someone there to talk with but all of these actually take some effort. I could also go for a nice walk around the 500 plus acres of the resort. Most days all of these options come into play and I am content. There are days like today though that we just don't want to exert the effort.

There is hope though and the light bulb comes on in my head. So off I go to find Gail and ask with great joy in my voice, "hey you want to go into town". Well Gail is always up for a road trip as it usually means some sort of shopping and or a meal out. I get Baxter out for a bathroom run and lock up and jump in the truck.

Driving down the 3/4 of a mile drive out of the resort I'm thinking not of what stores I will be walking around in, but for the special treat that is in store for me down the road. You see, about a mile or so down the road lives an old brown dog. This dog has been out by the side of the road everyday since our arrival. No leash or chain keeps this dog lock up. He simply knows his home and chooses to roam from place to place. Brown dog also seems to enjoy his naps. I for one have only seen him on his feet once in 2 weeks, and that was walking next to what was probably his pride and joy, a young boy of 10-12 years old.

I'm guessing by brown dogs napping locations that he is waiting for his pal to get home from school. He lays sometimes only 1 foot off the road, always napping in the sun. Sometimes on his belly others on his side, and yes once on his back, legs wide open without a care in the world. On colder days brown dog has a nice pile of pine needles to lay on in full sun. Now I have never stopped to say hello to the old fellow because that would disturb his nap and would not want to do that. Gail has started to take notice of him also. Once, he was laying way close to the road and looked as though he had been hit by a car and was dead there. Upset and concerned we came up with a reason to once again head down the road only after about ten minutes of getting home. Good ole brown dog was alive and well, he had moved to a more sunny location. Large smiles appeared on our faces, all was well.

Just like clockwork there he was. Laying in full sun on the side of the road. Sleeping like a champ. Was he dreaming of big bones and a full bowl of food? Does he ever go inside? Will I ever get a chance to say hello and let him know we think of him every day? How I do know? Is something as simple as a brown dog sleeping on the side of the road enough to keep me smiling. Sad as that might seem to some, it's OK with me.
