It was a short hop from Stuart Island to Roche Harbor but we were the only boat going into to the area on Sunday morning, and had to thread our way through a dozen or more on coming boats.  We decided to bypass Roche Harbor until a few more boats cleared out so we went through winding Mosquito Pass to Wescott Bay where we anchored next to the oyster beds.

We had pizza for lunch on the boat deck and watched the eagles for a couple of hours.  At one point we counted 2 juveniles and 5 adult eagles.  They were fascinating to watch as they soared and chased each other, landing in what seemed to be the tiniest branches that almost broke under their weight.  We saw them dive for and catch fish and then race away from the others to find a private place for lunch.  It was really great!  We had to tear ourselves away so we could take the dinghy and check out English Camp at Garrison Bay eagles...
eagles...

English Camp was an old military establishment from the 1800s.  Some of the original buildings were still standing and they had an interesting video about why it was built.  Apparently some American guy shot an English guys pig that was in his garden almost starting what was called the Pig war between the two countries. Then we hiked to the lookout of Young Hill...another reminder of how out of shape we are.  But, it was a marvelous view of the area.

After dinner we sat on the boat deck hoping for more eagles and we could see their white heads high in the trees along the shore watching for their dinner.  The water was gradually being taken over by dozens of seagulls and another beautiful sunset.

Sunday we took the dinghy to Roche Harbor and checked things out.  It is a quaint resort community that reminded us of Disneyland with not a lot of other services.  Fuel was $5.25/gal but it's over $8.00 in Canada so we topped off our tanks on Monday before we left for Sidney, BC.  It was raining and cold so we cancelled our walk to the Wescott Bay Preserve and settled for fish and chips at the cafe.  Then we filled our water tanks and headed out for Canada.

Sounds Fun
Glad you are having a great time. Sounds like the eagles are entertaining. Hopefully you will have improving weather, ours is starting to finally get warmer and somewhat summer like, maybe we will have one after all. Still on the hunt for the perfect boat, Thor is still on the top of the list. My mom just came home today from Lopez Island. Her friend has a house there. They did a lot of clamming, have you been able to clam? She said the weather had been blustery. Stay afloat and talk to you soon, good to hear about all your travels.
