Driving North from Vilanculos the umistakable smell of burning clutch filled the truck and we pretty much immediately lost power. We figured that if we let it cool down completely we could at least make it to the gas station 12 Km down the road. We were mistaken....the truck was going nowhere. We were stranded in one of the most remote sections of Mozambique and it was getting later in the afternoon. We have two cell phones but neither had a connection.

Vehicle after vehicle slowed to look at us but non seemed concerned enough to stop. Finally a truck full of Pakistanis, for all we could tell, stopped and pulled us to the town of Muxunge (I think). Within 5 minutes of our arrival the mechanincs came to us and confirmed our diagnosis of a burned out clutch. Being Sunday we had little hope of finding someone to look at it but to our surprise they said it could be fixed before the end of the day. They pushed the car to a muddy lot, put a tarp under it and immediately got to work removing the transmission. By 9 pm it was replaced and better than new actually.

I originally thought we would be spending the night by the truck and it could be half a week before we were on the road again, if not worse. Thanks to the guys from ZRG Garage for replacing our cluctch for less than $200.

We are currently camped by the Zambezie River about to make a push for Isla de Mozambique,

For me the end of the road is looking like it will come soon for various reasons I wont go into.
