Where I stayed
Eureka Stockade Caravan Park
Next day we headed out of Ballarat north east for a look through the township of Creswick, stopped at this old amazing Mill
. Walked around the grounds and checked it all out. It was really interesting and very pretty here. Then Smeaton and on to the amazing old world township of Clunes. This place was like a film set. So old and fake looking but we loved it! Had a sanga and glass of wine by the creek, then walked the township. Awesome place, so old. Then we headed up to a place called Talbot thinking it might be something like Clunes but didn't cut the mustard for us. Headed back to Ballarat via smaller roads and totally different landscape to what we saw on the way up. Back onto the highway at Waubra, through Learmonth and stopped here to see the lake that was dry as chips! It is sooooo dry here! Obviously used to be heaps of water around here! Amazing! Then back into Ballarat to chill for the evening. Great day out and about today looking at the countryside… loved it.
Fought the trucks and traffic heading out of Melbourne today. Not a very exciting drive down here so we tried going off the freeway here and there to drive through the small villages to see something other than roadway. Wasn't too bad. Arrived in Ballarat and booked into the Eureka caravan park. Set up and did some much needed washing. This arvo we headed into the township for a drive around to have a look at the local architecture. There are some spectacular old buildings here. The township itself doesn't excite us though. Went to the gold shop and held onto a real gold nugget and that was pretty good. Drove out to Sovereign Hill and the Gold Museum but the entry fees were ridiculous so we decided not to go in. Much colder here in Ballarat. We are dragging out our winter woolies now!
