-Ushuaia to Alaska- or so I thought. Beginning in August 2005 I fly to Buenos Aires, head South to Ushuaia then make my way overland, through South America, become a dive instructor and have some fun.

Battling a huge infection on my knee, Sabrina and I drove through the winding roads of California and into Yosemite National park.
Patches of snow were slowly melting away by the side of the road, remnants of the long winter.
Sabrina had a few friends working as Rangers out here and we were invited to crash in their Ranger house.
Arriving at the perfeect time, we were served dinner and settled into our position on the floor. After a few crazy nights in Vegas and a long drive, we were exhausted.
The next morning we investigated hikes around Yosemite and devided to try to get to the top of Half Dome, the icon of the park. A huge granite tower, its a climbers delight and people come from all over the world to climb the thing.
The next day, we hired a bear canister. Aparantly the bears are waking from hibernation and coming down to the campsites, drawn by the delicious smells. Its a law within the park to take and use a bear canister. Basically a hard plasic container, you lock your food up in it and bears cannot get in. But they say thats not enough, so on addition to the bearproff canister, the campsites also have bear boxes, where you lockup your canister inside a great big metal bin.
With 2 days worth of food and camping suplies, we set off, upthe mist trail and toward Half Dome. The walk was magnificent as wel followed coll rivers up a valley, past a few waterfalls and eventually wound up at a campground. Its not exactly camping season, as there is still a little snow on the ground, but we pitched our tent and kept warm by a fire.
The next mornig we hiked to the top of half dome.
more soon...
