Tela, an up and coming beach town on the Caribbean coast of Colombia has alot of work to do if its to become the next hot tourist destination as they say it is.
The place is a complete dump. Rubbish lines every street, where stray dogs covered in mange roam in packs. The locals are far from welcoming.
Its stinking hot and the beach is so polluted, the water glows and the sand can barely be seen from the garbage lining the shores. Making it a death wish to swim.
Its not what you would expect from a Caribbean beach town.
The local people call themselves Garifunas, and are descendants from african slaves. They have a number of traditional communities scattered along the north coast of Honduras.
More soon. In the meantime, im diving in the Bay Islands.
