Two hours West of Montreal is the capital of Canada - Ottawa. I figured I was so close I might as well check it out. I formed a nice close bunch of amigos in Montreal, so myself, a Canadian, an American and the 2 Swedish took an overpriced Greyhound bus to Ottawa.

We were sad to leave our Montreal Hostel, but we all knew that any more time there would be the death of us. The Greyhound bus from Montreal to Ottawa took 5 hours.

We checked into a hostel in Ottawa and then the Swedish discovered that they left their Camera, books and their reading glasses on the bus. While the rest of us checked in, they made a few frantic calls to the Greyhound station.

The Ottawa hostel was in the grounds of an old and apparently haunted jail. Upon checking in, we had the option of staying in a normal dorm room, or in a real jail cell. Of course we opted for the cell. There were six beds in our 'cell' and a thick heavy iron door with vertical bars was our security.

The next day, in the -22 weather, we gathered ourselves and wandered around the cold city together. Fresh snow was falling and many snowballs entertained us as we walked the cold streets, checking out parliament house and the frozen lake.

That night, we cooked a warming Thai Laksa together and did a ghost tour of the hostel. There were a number of empty dorm rooms that are apparently too haunted for people to sleep in.

A few days later, we kept the group together and headed to Toronto.
